LAYETTE LIST

What is a Baby Layette?

For most people a baby's layette are things a new baby will wear.
Below is a guide to help you organize your baby's wardrobe, as well as a Layette Checklist at the bottom of the page that includes several other items you will likely need.

Side-Tied Vest (really popular and easy to put on your infant!)

$8.50

The Natural Charm Collection from the Bechimex Corp. of Markham, Ontario, is a great source of layette items and a Mom & Dad favorite. The more you wash it the softer it gets.
Size Chart
Infants...
Small - Fits up to 10 lbs
Medium - Fits up to 15 lbs
Large - Fits up to 20 lbs

For example, you will need 6 - 8 Undershirts.  Most people don't like putting anything over their baby's head, so you could choose either the Side-Tied Vest (left) or the Grow-A-Size Diaper Vest (right).

Grow-A-Size Diaper Vest (grows with your baby & holds everything together!)

$10.50

$14.50
You will need 3 - 4 Nightgowns (left ) (as I like to think that the sooner your baby knows it is bedtime at night, the sooner they will sleep through the night!). Or you may want to use a sleeper or Sleepsuit (right), with or without feet (please specify when ordering).

$19.99

$5.50
A pair of Booties (left) are great to have as well as many pairs of socks (they kick them off, and often get lost in the wash!!!)

$3.50

You may want to have at least one pair of Scratch Mittens (left) available if the nighties or outfits you put on your baby don't have any attached.  Babies often scratch their faces even though you have cut their finger nails!

The more Receiving Blankets (right) you have the better (4 - 8 should be enough) to use as spit up cloths or to wrap or swaddle your baby.

You may want to purchase a pair of Nail Clippers, the best-ever Scissors from Japan, and a Brush for your baby.  We also stock these items.

This is basically all you will need, except of course, diapers, diapers, and more diapers.  We at Diaper-eez have the most wonderful selection of cotton, washable diapers on the market today (click here for an overview) that are just as easy to take care of as washing a load of towels!!  Really!!!

For diaper-choosing and diaper-washing instructions and tips, visit the FAQ (frequently asked questions) page of this site.

To summarize how to wash diapers: Just take the diaper off your baby, drop diaper into your diaper pail (breastfed babies stools are usually loose and runny so they soak into the diaper which means no rinsing in the toilet!!), when the pail is full simply empty into the washing machine, wash in hot water with regular detergent and when the diapers are done, throw them into the dryer and TA DA!!!!  You will have lovely, fresh, clean wonderful cotton diapers ready for the next diaper change. OR you can incorporate $10 - $30/week into your grocery budget for the next 2 - 3 years and not know exactly what is next to the most delicate part of YOUR baby's body; not to mention what you will leave your baby in the landfill when he or she grows up!!  Enough Preaching!!!
